During a lesson some 35 years ago, the teacher and pianist Edith Vogel described the three last piano sonatas by Schubert as “Beethoven in Heaven”. Although there is only five years between the completion of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations and Schubert’s last sonatas, the music could not be more contrasted. This concert is dedicated to the memory of Edith Vogel, one of the most insightful interpreters of Beethoven and Schubert from the last century.
