Marcos Portugal The Marriage of Figaro‡

In the late 18th century, the European fame of the Lisbon-born opera composer Marcos Portugal (1762 – 1830) far eclipsed that of Mozart. Bampton Classical Opera adds to its unique record of modern premières with a staged production of Portugal’s Marriage of Figaro, unperformed since 1800. This offers a fascinating opportunity to experience an alternative approach to the characters and comic intrigues originally invented by the French writer Beaumarchais.

£27 / £20 / £15
