Paul McCreesh and the Gabrieli Consort & Players revive their glorious reconstruction of a typical 17th century Lutheran Christmas Mass, the 1994 recording of which remains the ensemble’s bestselling release on Deutsche Grammophon, beloved the world over.

Featuring music by the indefatigable Michael Praetorius and his contemporaries Samuel Scheidt and Johann Hermann Schein, this programme contains some of the best-loved Christmas music of the Lutheran tradition. And with almost every known early baroque instrument on stage – from cornets and sackbutts, to shawms, recorders, rackets, dulcians, strings and assorted keyboards – this is music of the German baroque at its most dazzlingly colourful as well.

‘What Paul McCreesh has achieved here is remarkable … nothing short of revelatory.’ MusicWeb International
