The London Bulgarian Choir
Dessislava Stefanova
Conductor
Programme to be confirmed
The London Bulgarian Choir celebrates passion in all its guises with the birth of their new album "Songs of Forbidden Love". You'll hear crunchy harmonies, and wonky beats woven into stories of attraction, seduction, abduction and sacrifice - themes which only folk music can evoke so powerfully and subversively.

“A guaranteed stunning, aural delight.” Time Out

The choir was founded in 2000 by Bulgarian singer Dessislava Stefanova. Their notable achievements include winning BBC Open Choir of the Year in 2006, featuring as one of Joan Armatrading’s Favourite Choirs on BBC Radio 4 in 2008, singing at Westminster Abbey in 2010 and performing at the National Theatre’s Pericles in 2018. They have collaborated with numerous rock, jazz and classical musicians, most prominently with Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares in 2015, the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Barbican in 2016, with rock band Doves at the 2009 BBC Electric Proms. The choir became the voice of an extinct civilization in HALO 4 – the most highly anticipated Xbox game of 2012.

In this production, the London Bulgarian Choir returns to SJSS in collaboration with the London Festival of Bulgarian Culture.
