SIDE-BY-SIDE: CARDINAL VAUGHAN

Conductor
Tchaikovsky
Symphony No. 5

‘Complete resignation before Fate’ Tchaikovsky wrote on his fifth symphony. Written a decade after his fourth, the emotions of an anguished composer seeps into the themes of Symphony No. 5, with dark fateful moods depicted by a solemn clarinet motif. This is followed by great soaring melodies and heartfelt emotions, epitomising the late Romantic era of the symphony.

We are delighted to re-join the remarkable students of Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School - annually mentored by their Southbank Sinfonia counterparts - to create an orchestra of symphonic proportions. The school’s acclaimed choir have toured worldwide and featured on the Oscar-winning score for Life of Pi.
