Joining us here in the Baroque iteration of the fellowship, Southbank Sinfonia Baroque will be performing a stunning collection of pieces including Handel’s famous ‘Water Music’. Commissioned by King George I to accompany a royal procession up the River Thames in the summer of 1717, it is a joyous collection of orchestral movements full of energy and exuberance, much like the players themselves.

With historical performance having always been a significant part of the Southbank Sinfonia experience, the players will be performing using historically informed techniques and in many cases, instruments. At the helm, they will be directed by the wonderful Julian Perkins. Shortlisted for the 2021 Gramophone Award for his recording of Eccles’s Semele with the Academy of Ancient Music and Cambridge Handel Opera, Julian is a highly regarded conductor and keyboard player holding positions including Artistic Director of Cambridge Handel Opera and the Founder Director of Sounds Baroque. His varied and abundant career has made him incredibly sought after and this upcoming collaboration is sure to blossom under his baton.
