We are thrilled that Steven Devine, music director and keyboard player will be joining us here at St John’s in association with REMA to celebrate Early Music Day- an extensive collection of concerts, events and happenings held simultaneously across Europe every year on 21st March, the birthday of J.S. Bach.

As part of our Lunchtime Concert Series, Steven will be performing a collection of Harpsichord Music by Johann Ludwig Krebs. Although a favoured student of J.S. Bach, Johann Ludwig Krebs didn’t see any substantial success in his own lifetime however, more recent assessments have discovered a highly educated, enlightened and open minded musician who was clearly highly accomplished as a performer, demonstrating a fascinating synthesis of Baroque, Galant and Classical forms. This upcoming concert is therefore the perfect opportunity to hear the work of an often under-appreciated composer being performed by an artist at the forefront of their craft. Breathing new life into music that is yet to be given the chance to truly flourish.

Steven is no stranger to St John’s having performed here many times. Here he is below performing as part of our 2021 London Festival of Baroque Music:

To help get you in the mood for the concert, why not have a listen to some of Steven’s most recent recorded works. In 2021 Steven recorded two volumes of a projected four-volume survey of the harpsichord works of Ludwig Krebs. Volume 1 was released in September 2021 on the Resonus Label.

Steven Devine will be performing at St John’s Smith Square on 21st March 2022 at 1:00pm
