After their acclaimed performance of Brahms’ Requiem and the great success of their Beethoven Symphony cycle in 2021, The Outcry Ensemble are delighted to return to St Johns' Smith Square. Known for their intense and committed playing, The Outcry Ensemble's concerts have rapidly become known for their immersive and emotional experience. Each concert features a pre-concert talk given by the conductor and founder, James Henshaw, where the music is explained and explored.
The Festival is a wonderful opportunity to go on a musical journey through Brahms' works with the Orchestra. A previous highlight of The Outcry Ensemble was the Beethoven 251 Festival where many audience members experienced the legendary German composer’s nine symphonies for the first time.
At their first concert of the series, we will hear the epic first piano concerto. First conceived as his 1st symphony, the piano concerto is a wonderful example of how Brahms transforms the concerto into symphonic scale work. The first symphony in the second half, with its touching 2nd movement and glorious finale is a fitting end to the first concert.
The Festival is in aid of young orchestral musicians who are still struggling from Covid-19 despite more than 18 months of "life as normal".
