The Purcell School for Young Musicians is home to teenage classical musicians, jazz musicians and composers from all over the world. In recent months they have given outstanding performances at the Wigmore Hall, Hatfield House Chamber Music Festival and the Watford Colosseum, and tonight they return to St John's Smith Square in an appealing programme that reveals a little of their range. Director of Music Paul Hoskins celebrates the youthfulness and artistry of the Sixth Form performers, programming works that Brahms and Beethoven wrote (or at least began) in their 20s, alongside music of today. Erics Esenvalds choral Te Deum was written for the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge in 2013, and is accompanied by organ, harp, trumpets and trombones. Two student composers have contributed short brass quintets to complete the programme.
