“It’s not a question of Satie’s relevance. He is indispensable.” John Cage

Serbian pianist Branka Parlic is a leading interpreter of contemporary and minimalist music. Her lunchtime concert on 27 February at 1.05pm is entitled “Quiet Music” and includes contemplative music by Satie, Bryars and Glass.

Satie is, of course, as much a British composer as he is a French one. He had a Scottish mother and his parents were married in London. Satie has been of crucial importance to several English composers from the experimental tradition, whose work demonstrates an acute understanding of Satie’s music and spirit.

After Handel's "Vesper" for solo harpsichord by Gavin Bryars was commissioned by Maggie Cole and first performed October1995.

Philip Glass began to compose two volumes of piano Etudes in 1994 and finished them in 2014. Metamorphosis 1-5 were composed in 1988.
