Regents Opera bring their Così fan tutte to St John’s Smith Square with Southbank Sinfonia. An opera about love, trust, deception, confusion, comedy and what we learn from it all. This will be a fully staged performance by Sophie Gilpin of Opera North and Swap’ra, and set in the 18th Century. It will be conducted by Ben Woodward, and feature an international cast of Christine Buras, Olympia Hetherington, Dominic J Walsh and Christian Andreas as the two pairs of lovers, and Andrew Mayor as the devious Don Alfonso and Francesca Matta as his devilish and delightful sidekick Despina.
Mozart’s third comedy with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte features glorious tunes, heart-wrenching drama and sardonic wit. Add into that the glorious late-Mozartian orchestral colour from our Southbank Sinfonia players, and we have an evening to look forward to.
