Described by one Cathedral Dean as “The finest Parish Church Choir in the country”, The Choir of St George’s Church, Beckenham, makes its debut at St John’s Smith Square alongside The Chameleon Arts Orchestra and rising star Russian pianist Arina Lazgiian. They celebrate three Viennese masterpieces tonight, including the famous Piano Concerto No. 3 by Beethoven in the 250th anniversary year of the composer’s birth.

Under the baton of Marcus Wibberley (previously Director of Music of Hexham Abbey and of the Hexham Abbey Festival of Music and Arts), the Choir of St George’s has an increasing portfolio of orchestral concerts and foreign tours, having recently taken up invitations to sing at The Vatican and other Papal Basilicas in Rome, and in 2018 at St Mary’s Cathedral, Tallinn, Estonia, as part of the city’s International Choir Festival. The choir also has a long history of broadcasting and singing at cathedrals throughout the UK. The Choral Foundation of St George’s has been supported by The Friends of Cathedral Music, and provides annual Choral Scholarships for young singers.

Multi-award-winning Russian concert pianist Arina Lazgiian is also a Beckenham resident while studying in the UK on a Future of Russia Scholarship. She is a Benjamin Britten Piano Fellow and Performer’s Diplomée at the Royal College of Music and continues to be supported in the present season by the Philip Loubser Foundation. She has played recitals in Moscow, London and Paris, including a broadcast on Radio France-Musiques, at Orléans, in various Italian locations and in Majorca. Arina will also give a solo recital at the Wigmore Hall on Wednesday 8 April 2020 at 1.00pm.
