Wellington College in Berkshire was founded in 1859 as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington and music has been a key feature of the school’s education for many, many years. We have found the opportunities to perform outside the confines of the school, a considerable contribution to our learning experience. Different circumstances and different settings provide for improvement and focus. Music in schools should be aspirational, and we remain committed to creating these opportunities for our musicians to achieve their very best.

Six years since they last played at St. John’s Smith Square, Wellington College Symphony Orchestra return, joined by Camerata, Schola Cantorum and the Wellington College Big Band. The concert will include a diverse choice of repertoire with a loving nod to our capital.

Camerata will open the concert with Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 (Franz Liszt), followed by Romance from Serenade for Strings (William Lloyd Webber) and Por Una Cabeza (Gardel). Conductor: Susie Henwood

The Schola Cantorum will perform Britten's Ceremony of Carols. Conductor: Jack Thompson

Wellington College Big Band will close the first half with Sing Sing Sing (Prime) and Foggy Day (Gershwin). Conductor: Jonathan Heeley

After the interval, the Wellington College Symphony Orchestra will take to the stage to perform Cello Concerto (1st Mvt) (Elgar), Mazaurka from Coppelia (Delibes), Bydlo from Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussorgsky), and London Suite (Coates). Conductor: Natalia Luis-Bassa
