WEST LONDON SINFONIA

Anniversary Celebration – 50 years and counting!

One of London’s leading amateur orchestras, West London Sinfonia has been led since 1991 by the inspirational Philip Hesketh, under whose baton we will celebrate our half century in a typically ambitious and varied programme.

We open with a celebratory Fanfare, composed by WLS’s Founder, Steve Block, whom we are delighted to welcome to this special occasion.

Kabalevsky’s rumbustious overture Colas Breugnon is followed by an adventure in jazz-classical crossover with Barbara Thompson’s tuneful and virtuosic Concerto for Three Saxophones, featuring a different member of the saxophone family in each movement. It will be a great pleasure to collaborate with the brilliant saxophonist Jonathan Radford, a multiple award winner, 'One to Watch' in Gramophone Music Magazine and BBC Music Magazine’s Rising Star.

Crowning the evening will be Holst’s magisterial and much-loved suite The Planets – his astrologically-inspired journey through war, serenity, euphoria and mysticism, and a dazzling array of orchestral sound-worlds
