Berkeley Brass present an all baroque programme featuring the music of Rameau and Bach adapted for the humble brass septet. Selections from two of Rameau’s operas precede an adventurous adaptation of Bach’s 10th Keyboard Concerto, featuring the trombone as the soloist, before concluding the concert with his Easter Oratorio! Formed in 2020, the group met at the Royal Academy of Music before swiftly going on to win “Highly Commended” in the Worshipful Company of Musicians Brass Prize. The group performs regular concerts at the Royal Academy and other venues in London. Most of the repertoire is arranged by trombonist Samuel Dawes, whose arrangements include Overture to the Wasps by Vaughan-Williams and Petite Suite by Borodin. Their recent concert series, Famous French, took them on a journey reimagining French piano works by Debussy and Ravel for brass septet, including Suite Bergamasque; known for its famous 3rd movement Clair de Lune. Currently, the septet have been working on Prokofiev’s Peter and Wolf adapting it for brass, with the purpose of educating children about the brass family of instruments. The group is excited to also be involved in the premiere of Phrase Book II; a brand-new song cycle for double brass septet, by Jacob Fitzgerald.
